Lucid Guys on Internet Marketing – Part 9

30 July 2010 No Comment

Part 9 in a series of Internet Marketing videos featuring David Congreave and his assistant Beth Rudkin. This week David discusses how to back up your data.

To ask David and Beth an Internet Marketing question, send an email to video@davidcongreave.com

DAVID
Hi I’m David Congreave, and this is my assistant Bethany Rudkin. So Bethany, I understand you’ve learned something very valuable this week.

BETHANY
Yes. If your laptop starts smoking then something bad is happening.

DAVID
Yes. Ok. And more importantly?

BETHANY
Oh, erm, yes, laptops are not dishwasher safe.

DAVID
Yes… ok, getting to the point… you destroyed your laptop, but how much of your work did you lose in the process?

BETHANY
Oh, right, I didn’t lose anything, because I had all my data backed up.

DAVID
That’s right. Now backing up your PCs and laptops may be a boring subject.

BETHANY
Perfect for you.

DAVID
Yes, but the main point is that if you’re working from home, then you must have a backup plan in place. Otherwise, depending on what data you lose, it could mean the difference between your business continuing without a problem, or crashing and burning.

BETHANY
Literally.

DAVID
Yes, literally, if you’ve tried to wash your laptop. That’s why all of our computer equipment is protected by Carbonite.

BETHANY
That’s the system that automatically backs up my computer data onto a server.

DAVID
That’s right. Two things I love about Carbonite. One – you don’t need any equipment, just a small software download. Two – it runs automatically in the background, so you don’t need to remember to do anything. Just set and forget.

BETHANY
I’m great at forgetting.

DAVID
Which is why it’s perfect for you.

BETHANY
Once I’d got my new laptop, I just used the software to download the data from the server and then it was business as usual.

DAVID
And at only $55 a year, this is very affordable for most, if not all, small businesses.

DAVID
Please don’t tell me that’s your new laptop.

BETHANY
No, it’s alright, it’s just the scanner.

DAVID
The scanner? The dishwasher?

BETHANY
No, it was just the cat. I think she was trying to copy herself.

DAVID
We’re a real professional outfit aren’t we?

BETHANY
Say “goodbye”.
